New Mobile Allotment Unit

Avant-Gardening has a new member of the Mobile Allotment family. Artist, Lisa Cheung, has designed and built a new unit to join the existing two pieces. The new unit is a mobile, multi-functional planting unit that can easily be used by a single person and has been built for maximum flexibility. The brief for the unit was to make a piece that was fun, easy to move and had both storage and workspaces.

The new addition to the Mobile Allotment has been funded by London Borough of Greenwich and will soon be seen on the streets of the borough dispensing green wisdom and gardening tips

Waving goodbye to the Nightingale

Lisa sadly finished her summer-long artist's residency on the Nightingale Estate in Woolwich on Saturday. Over 4 months Lisa and a few guest Avant-Gardeners, worked with the community to host social gatherings and parties, ran t-shirt making workshops, created flowers out of recycled rubbish, grew plants and vegetables, shared gardening and cookery tips over the homemade food and cakes that the residents bought along, created a fanzine of collage and design and generally set about thinking how an urban community can have a positive impact on their immediate environment.
Avant-Gardening send out a great big 'thank you' to Seval and the team at Welcare and especially to the people of Nightingale themselves

Avant-Gardening are delighted that London Borough of Greenwich are funding the build of a third unit for the Mobile Allotment. Unit 3 will be a mini planting station that will enable Avant-Gardeners to go where the action is for some emergency greening.

Summer programme

Lisa has started a programme of activities on the Mobile Allotment. During the May half-term holidays the emphasis was on engaging the young residents with a range of activities.

Mobile Allotment launched

The Mobile allotment has now taken up residency on the Nightingale Estate, Woolwich. At the moment there are two stations; a planting allotment and a cold greenhouse. These two prototype mobile allotments were designed and created by Lisa Cheung with funding from Arts Council, England and UnLtd.
